the building process

With over two decades of building experience, Behr has focused on creating a quality home as well as providing clear communication throughout the project.

Here is an outline of what you can expect when you build with Behr…

Before working with a builder, we would encourage you to

  • Begin financial discussions with a lender

  • Select a building location

  • Select a home design and/or create a wish list for features in your home

1

Once you have criteria decided for your home (square footage, number of bedrooms, etc.) we can work with you to

  • Choose an existing Behr house plan, or...

  • Coordinate with our architect to adjust an existing plan to meet your needs

If you currently own a plan that you would like for us to build, we would be happy to do that as well.

2

When you are ready to move forward with building your home, the next steps are to secure financing, establish a final budget, and sign a building contract.

You are welcome to use your own lending resource. We have worked several lending institutions in the area, and would be happy to offer recommendations.

We provide a spec sheet to our customers as a starting point for establishing a budget. After a budget is finalized we prepare a contract for review.

Once the contract has been signed, Behr takes care of submitting permit applications and notifying subs & vendors of the upcoming project.

Prior to digging the foundation, you will meet with a Behr Selections Coordinator to confirm the building details & selections for your home. This information will be documented in our Buildertrend software, where you can watch the progress of the following stages of the build:

  1. Foundation

  2. Framing

  3. Rough-Ins (Plumbing, Mechanical & Electrical)

  4. Inspections

  5. Insulation & Drywall

  6. Interior Trim

  7. Finishing touches (fixtures, flooring, cabinetry, paint)

Around the time the interior of your home is being painted, we can provide a firm closing date for you and your lender. After the finishing touches are complete, a final walk through will be scheduled at least a week prior to your move-in date. We provide a one-year warranty follow-up visit with all of our homes.
